Citation: Drone on Copyright (1879), Primary Sources on Copyright (1450-1900), eds L. Bently & M. Kretschmer, www.copyrighthistory.org Record Record-ID: us_1879a Full title A treatise on the law of property in intellectual productions in Great Britain and the United States : embracing copyright in works of literature and art, and playwright in dramatic and musical compositions Full title original language N/A Abstract Eaton Drone's treatise on copyright was the most extensive and comprehensive published on the topic in the United States in the nineteenth century. It became the dominant treatise on copyright in the United States for decades. The treatise that covered both American and British copyright was a strong and eloquent expression of the new concepts that came to pervade copyright thinking in the late nineteenth century. This new conceptual structure abandoned copyright"s traditional framework as a limited economic entitlement to print a text in favor of a much broader and abstract concept of copyright as ownership of an intellectual work. The commentary surveys the main elements of the treatise and the new conceptual structure of copyright that was elaborated in it. Bibliography Bracha, Oren.
