The fine amounts to two thousand ducats and
six years of exile.
            2. However, from the above-mentioned
licence, no printing or reprinting is allowed
without having delivered the original to the
Council that will read and examine it,
and without their Notary of the Chamber
and Government having signed every
page and sheet of the work. At the end of it,
the said Notary shall issue the number and
amount of sheets. He must sign it in his name,
and sign and initial the amendments made
to the above-mentioned original, saving them
at the end; the printer must adhere to the
original corrected in this way, without inclu-
ding anything else: Once printed, whoever
printed it is committed to bring the original
that was handed in to the Council plus one
or two printed volumes so they can be
read and verified to see they comply with
the original: And the same shall apply
to the books, which are printed once or more
times using the said licences for re-printing
them; this cannot be done without a new
licence, (even during the term of the privilege,
if applicable) and without the book from
which it shall be done having been read,
signed and initialled in the manner
and form applicable to works and new
books; anyone printing them, or ordering
them to be printed, or who sells the book
or the paper for printing or re-printing them
in any other way, shall be punished by
forfeiting his property and with
perpetual exile from of these kingdoms.
            3. Any printing or reprinting carried out
under licence from the Council, or that
bears a privilege to do so, cannot be
distributed or sold or even be delivered
to the printer until the Council has assessed
them and the General Corrector has corrected
them; solely for this purpose one or two
copies together with the original must be
made available for the said corrections
and price assessment; and until these
formalities are finalized and the licence
for selling has been issued,

the printer shall retain the complete work,
or otherwise be punished by law.
            4. The beginning of every book
printed or re-printed in this way must show
the licence, price assessment and privilege (if
applicable) and the name of the author and
printer, the place where it was printed and
reprinted, with the date and real time
it took to be printed, without changing or
anticipating it, nor giving any false names, or
commit any other fraud, or use any marks
or precautionary clauses against what is
stated in this chapter, under sentence of
losing their property and perpetual exile
from these kingdoms,and others applicable
by law: and the bookseller, book merchant
or binder who distributes, sells or binds the
book or printed paper in any other form,
shall incur in a sentence of fifty thousand
maravedís on the first occasion, and exile
from these kingdoms for two years, and on
the second occasion, this sentence shall
be doubled and on the third occasion, he shall
lose all his property which will be confiscated
and his exile shall be forever.
            5. It shall be understood that, if the books
or papers printed or re-printed without the said
licence concern matters of the doctrine of the
Holy Scripture, and related to the Religion of
the holy Catholic Faith, the death sentence and
loss of all property is applicable. Any such books
and works would be burned publicly; and
whoever printed and reprinted, sold or kept the
book or printed work or who brought them
into these kingdoms would incur in the
same sentence, or for printing those that are
forbidden and prohibited by the Holy Office of
the Inquisition in any language, and in any quality
and matter that such a book or work be in. It is
hereby declared that the aforementioned senten-
ce shall only apply to printers, booksellers or
book dealers with depraved intention and as the
drivers and assistants of heretics, who print,
bring into or sell these books or papers in these
kingdoms.

            2.Sin embargo de la referida licencia
no pasen á la impresion y reimpresion,
sin que se les entregue el original que en el
Consejo se hubiere presentado, visto, y
examinado, y sin que por su Escribano de
Cámara y de Gobierno se hallen rubri-
cadas cada plana y hoja de la obra, y
al fin de ella exprese el referido Escriba
no el número y cuenta de las hojas, y lo
haya firmado de su nombre, y rubricado
y señalado las enmiendas que en el referi-
do original hubiere, salvándolas al fin;
arreglándose el impresor al dicho original
así corregido, sin exceder en cosa algu-
na: y executada la impresion, sea obli-
gado el que imprimiere á traer al Conse-
jo el original, que se le dió, con uno ó
dos volúmenes de los impresos, para que
se vea y entienda, si están conformes con
el original: y lo mismo se entienda en los
libros, que impresos una vez ó mas con
dichas licencias se volvieren á reimpri-
mir; lo que no pueda hacerse (aun du-
rando el tiempo del privilegio si le hu-
biese) sin nueva licencia, y sin que el
libro por donde se hubiere de hacer, sea
visto, rubricado y señalado en la mane-
ra y la forma que dicha es en las obras y
libros nuevos; so pena al que imprimie-
re, diere á imprimir, ó vendiere libro ó
papel impreso ó reimpreso en otra mane-
ra, de perdimiento de bienes y destierro
perpetuo de estos reynos.
            3.Las impresiones ó reimpresiones que
se hicieren con licencia del Consejo, ó
por lo que tuvieren privilegio para ello,
no se puedan repartir ni vender, ni en-
tregarlas el impresor, hasta que se tasen
por el Consejo, y se corrijan por el Cor-
rector general; á cuyo fin solo entregará á
la parte uno ó dos ejemplares con el origi-
nal para efecto de dicha correccion y ta-
sa; y hasta que estén evacuadas di-
ligencias, y se haya dado la licencia pa-

ra su venta, retendrá en si el impresor to-
da la obra, so las penas contenidas en las
leyes.
            4.En el principio de cada libro que
así se imprimiere ó reimprimiere, se pon-
ga la licencia, tasa y privilegio (si le hu-
biere), y el nombre del autor y del im-
presor, y lugar donde se imprimió y re-
imprimió, con fecha y data verdadera del
tiempo de la impresión, sin mudarla ni
anticiparla, ni suponer nombres, ni hacer
otros fraudes, ni usar de trazas y cautelas
contra lo prevenido en este capítulo, ba-
xo de la misma pena de perdimiento de
bienes y destierro perpetuo de estos rey-
nos, y demás contenidas en las leyes: y el
librero, mercader de libros ó enquader-
nador que divulgare, vendiere ó enqua-
dernare libro ó papel impreso en otra for-
ma de la prevenida, incurra en pena de
cincuenta mil maravedís por la primera
vez, y destierro de estos reynos por dos
años, y por la segunda se duplique esta
pena y por la tercera pierda y se le con-
fisquen todos los bienes y el destierro sea
perpetuo.
            5.Si los libros ó papeles que se im-
primieren ó reimprimieren sin la referida
licencia fuesen materias de doctrina de
Sagrada Escritura, y de cosas concernien-
tes a la Religión de la santa Fe Católica,se
entienda la pena de muerte y perdimiento
de bienes, y que los tales libros y obras
sean públicamente quemadas; y en la mis-
ma pena incurra el que imprimiere y re-
imprimiere, vendiere ó tuviere en su po-
der ó entrase en estos reynos libro ú obra
impresa, ó por imprimir, de las que están
vedadas y prohibidas por el Santo Ofi-
cio de la Inquisición en cualquier lengua,
y de cualquier calidad y materia que el tal
libro ú obra sea. Y se declara, que la dicha
pena solo tenga lugar en el caso de que
los impresores, libreros ó tratantes de li-
bros con intención depravada y como
los fautores y auxiliadores de herejes, im-
priman, entren ó vendan en estos rey-
