[IN THE MARGIN: 472 Order on the petitioning and obtaining of Patents for the printing and reprinting of Books.]

THE Pensionary vanden Santheuvel has reported to the Meeting on the considerations and advice of the Lords Delegates of her Noble High Mightiness, pursuant to, and in satisfaction of, the same commissarial Resolution of 21 May 1708, examined the Petition by, or on behalf of, the Masters of the Booksellers in several Cities of this Province, presented to your Noble High Mightiness having as an Attachment an Argument, amply explaining the damages suffered by the Supplicants by the copying of their Books, the origin thereof and the means to prevent it in future, petitioning your Noble High Mightiness to reflect thereupon, and subsequently at their own discretion provide that the Supplicants thereby may be protected against such vexations.
Having been deliberated on, it has been consented and understood that may not be petitioned any patents for the printing and selling of Books under a wrong Title, but that in the Petition will have to be stated the real name or names of the Book or Books for which such patents will be petitioned.

[IN THE MARGIN: No patents are to be granted except to Books belonging and printed within this country.]

That the books, for which the aforesaid Patents will be petitioned, will have to be fully the property, at least for the biggest part, of Citizens of this Country, and will have to be printed in this Country.

That in case of the petitioning and obtaining of Patents on collections or corpora, therein may not be included any Books, which already have been printed by other residents of the

[IN DE KANTLIJN: 472 Ordre op het versoeken en verleenen van Octroyen tot het drukken en herdrukken van Boeken.]

DE Heer Pensionaris vanden Santheuvel heeft ter Vergaderinge gerapporteert de consideratien en het advis van de Heeren haar Edele Groot Mog. Gecommitteerden, hebbende, in gevolge en tot voldoening van der selver Appointment commissoriaal van den 21 Mey 1708, ge-examineert de Requeste by of van weegen de Overluiden van de Boekverkoopers in verscheide Steeden deeser Provincie, aan haar Edele Groot Mog. gepresenteert, hebbende tot Bylaage een Vertoog, ampel deduceerende de grieven by de Supplianten door het nadrukken van haare Boeken geleeden, den oorspronk daar van en de middelen om daar teegens in het toekoomende te voorsien, versoekende aan haar Edele Groot Mog. daar op soodanige reflectie te willen neemen, en vervolgens na der selver wys oordeel soodanige ordre te stellen, dat sy Supplianten daar door teegens deselve vexatien mogten werden geprotegeert.
Waar op gedelibereert zynde, is goedgevonden en verstaan, dat niet sullen moogen werden versogt eenige Octroyen tot het drukken en verkoopen van Boeken onder verkeerde Tituls, maar dat in de Requeste sal moeten werden gesteld de regte naam of naamen van het Boek of Boeken waar op soodanige Octroyen sullen werden versogt.

[IN DE KANTLIJN: Geen Octroyen te verleenen als op Boeken hier te Lande toebehoorende en gedrukt werdende.]

Dat de Boeken, waar op de voorsz Octroyen sullen werden versogt, sullen moeten toebehooren in vollen eigendom, ten minsten voor het grootste gedeelte, aan Ingezeetenen van deesen Lande, en hier te Lande gedrukt sullen moeten zyn.

Dat in cas van het versoeken en obtineeren van Octroyen op collectien of corpora, in deselve niet sullen mogen werden geinsereert eenige Boeken, dewelke by andere Ingezeetenen van den
