[IN THE MARGIN: the University of Leyden.]
Library of the aforesaid University, with the petition that your High Mightiness will provide for this with the expansion of your Noble High Mightiness' Resolution of 5th December 1679 with the clause stated in more detail in that Missive. Having been deliberated on, it has been consented and decreed that from now on all those who will have obtained a Patent for the printing, or reprinting, of any Books, Maps, Pictures, Atlasses, Picture Books, or something else, whatever its name, will be held to deposit a copy of the Book or Map etc., whereon they have obtained Patent, on large Paper, bound and in neat condition, at the Library of her Noble High Mighty University in Leyden within the term of six weeks from them initiating the publishing of that Books, Maps, Pictures, Atlasses, Picture Books, or something else, on a fine of six hundred guilders after lapsing of the provided six weeks, to be seized by the those petitioners for the benefit of the Low German Poor of the City, where such petitionaers reside, and furthermore on punishment of the effect of the aforesaid Patent effectively being revoked:
That also those petitioners, even though they shall have delivered a copy to the aforementioned Library at the entering into force of their Patent, insofar as they during the time of their patent would wish to reprint the book with any Observations, Notes, Additions, Changes, Corrections, or whatever else, or even in another Format, will be held to again deposit another copy of that Book, Map etc., in the same condition as above, at the aforesaid Library, within that term, and on fine and penalty as above:
That furthermore patent having been petitioned and obtained for the printing of some Journals, Periodicals, or other books, which are republished yearly, the printers thereof, after lapsing of their petitioned Patent, even though they had not petitioned the renewal thereof, however will remain to be held to deposit a copy thereof to the aforesaid Library every year within the term and on the fine, as laid down above:
That, in order to better observe all this, all patents which will from now on be granted for the printing or reprinting of any Books, or Maps etc., will contain a clause with the aforesaid terms and penalties.
That additionally no original Patents will be granted at the Secretariat of her Noble High Mightiness, but on the Note of the Librarian of the aforementioned Library, whereby the delivering of such a Copy will be irrefutably proven; in the meantime, only a simple Copy shall be released to the petitioners:
And, finally, that each six months, the Secretariat of her Noble High Mightiness will send to the aforementioned Librarian a List of the petitioned Patents, so that he will be responsible for the collecting of the copies, and to give the necessary notice thereof to the Low German Poor of the City, in which the infringing Petitioners will reside, to monitor the collecting of the Fines:
And Extract thereof will be send to the Magistrates of the

Bibliotheecq van de voorschreeve Universiteit, met versoek, dat haar Edele Groot Mog. gelieven daar tegen te voorsien met het amplieeren van haar Edele Groot Mog. Resolutie van den 5 December 1679 met de Clausule breeder by de selve Missive vermeld.
Waar op gedelibereert zynde is goedgevonden en verstaan, dat van nu voortaan alle die geene, welke geobtineert sullen hebben Octroy tot het drukken, of herdrukken, van eenige Boeken, Kaarten, Printen, Kaartboeken, Printboeken, of ietwes anders, hoe genaamt, gehouden sullen zyn een Exemplaar van het Boek, of Kaarte &c., waar op sy Octroy hebben verkreegen, op groot Papier, gebonden en wel geconditioneert te brengen in de Bibliotheecq van haar Edele Groot Mog. Universiteit te Leyden binnen den tyd van ses weeken, na dat sy het selve Boek, Kaarte, Printe, Kaartboeken, Printboeken, of yets anders, sullen hebben beginnen uyt te geeven, op een boete van ses honderd guldens, na expiratie der voorschreeve ses weeken by deselve Versoekers te verbeuren ten behoeve van de Nederduitsche Armen van de Plaats, alwaar soodanige Versoekers woonen, en voorts op poene van met'er daad versteeken te zyn van het effect van het voorsz Octroy:
Dat ook deselve Versoekers, schoon by het ingaan van haar Octroy een Exemplaar geleevert hebbende aan de voorschreeve Bibliotheecq, by soo verre sy geduurende de tyd van haar Octroy het selve Boek souden willen herdrukken met eenige Observatien, Nooten, Vermeerderingen, Veranderingen, Correctien, of anders hoe genaamt, of ook in een ander Formaat, gehouden sullen zyn wederom een ander Exemplaar van het selve Boek, Kaarte &c., geconditioneert als vooren, te brengen in de voorsz Bibliotheecq, binnen deselve tyd, en op de boete en poenaliteit als vooren:
Dat wyders Octroy versogt en verkreegen zynde op het drukken van eenige Journaalen, Mercuriussen, of andere Boeken, welke jaarlyx op nieuws uytkoomen, de Drukkers daar van, na expiratie van haar versogte Octroy, schoon sy daar van geen renovatie hadden versogt , egter gehouden sullen blyven, jaarlyx daar van een Exemplaar te brengen in de voorsz Bibliotheecq binnen de tyd, en op de boete, hier vooren gestatueert:
Dat, tot beeter nakooming van al het selve, alle Octroyen, welke van nu voortaan tot het drukken, of herdrukken van eenige Boeken, of Kaarten &c., sullen worden verleent, geclausuleert sullen worden met de voorsz periodes en poenaliteyten:
Dat ook geene origineele Octroyen ter Secretarye van haar Edele Groot Mog. sullen worden uytgegeeven, als op het Biljet van de Bibliothecaris van de voornoemde Bibliotheecq, waar by van de leevering van soodanigen Exemplaar sal consteeren; sullende midlerwyl aan de Versoekers alleen worden uytgegeeven een simpele Copye:
En eyndelijk, dat alle ses maanden uyt de Secretarye van haar Edele Groot Mog. aan den voornoemde Bibliothecaris sal worden gesonden een Lyst van de versogte Octroyen, ten eynde hy voor het invorderen der Exemplaaren de vereyschte sorg sal moogen draagen, en om aan de Nederduitsche Armen van de Plaats, daar de gebreekige Versoekers sullen woonen, daar van de noodige kennisse te geeven, om op het invorderen der Boeten te vigileeren:
En sal Extract deeses gesonden worden aan de Magistraaten van de

Waar op gedelibereert zynde is goedgevonden en verstaan, dat van nu voortaan alle die geene, welke geobtineert sullen hebben Octroy tot het drukken, of herdrukken, van eenige Boeken, Kaarten, Printen, Kaartboeken, Printboeken, of ietwes anders, hoe genaamt, gehouden sullen zyn een Exemplaar van het Boek, of Kaarte &c., waar op sy Octroy hebben verkreegen, op groot Papier, gebonden en wel geconditioneert te brengen in de Bibliotheecq van haar Edele Groot Mog.
